I have looked around online concerning this, but I was wondering if anyone had any personal experiences to share. Is switching to an electric range generally an involved process? Is it costly? I plan on having a professional do this, but I want to know what I will be getting into financially, time-wise, etc. Any help is appreciated...

Newer gas ranges plug into the wall (for the timers and stuff). But, they run on 110 volts. An electric range will require 220 volts. So, there is the cost of having 220-volt service run from your electric panel to the location of the range.

By the way, why would you want to replace a gas range with an electric? I've had both over the years and there's nothing better than a gas range for cooking. You get instant heat and removal of heat that you can't get with electric. Not to mention more precise heat control. Plus, it's generally cheaper to run gas burners than electric.
