For real. How much better would the quality be in here if trolls were not spewing their nonsense?
I know some people may disagree with me.
Some people say that trolls are sometimes funny. Maybe some are sometimes but other trolls are nasty and some are really low and disgusting.
Trolls want attention by saying stupid and insulting things to get a negative response Not by posting Q&As that are intelligent and interesting and enjoyable.
Some of them are off on an anti-feminist thing and think this is a great place to insult feminist.
Some of them are also mental and obsessively troll here to show off their hate for women.
I don't think that contributes anything positive.
Wouldn't be wonderful if this was a more friendly forum where people could come and actually discuss things without all of the pollution put out by the trolls?

p.s btw it looks like I'm on the top of the troll hit list. I got violated in a few questions lately.
Including 2 questions where I exposed trolls by posting nasty emails to me that I Really didn't want.

Sarina T I know someone is a troll from their behaviour just like I know someone is a thoughtful contrubutor.
I'm not censoring Anyone's free speech by blocking trolls. I refuse to feed them with my questions. I would rather respect every one who Does want to give positive halpful and interesting answers.

i think that all the time. i try to keep myself from answering the rediculous questions like "feminism caused aids and war and poverty" but sometimes i just can't help it. if the trolls weren't around, the quality of the questions would be 800% better.

Great reply by Patois.
I do not think that the quality of question significantly improves by eliminating trolls, which is a pipedream anyway. Trolls do not prevent me from thinking up interesting questions, or responding to yours.
For all it can be frustrating to see a good question attract responses I find trollish, they are easy to thumbs-down and ignore. For all that sometimes a good question flies off the first page, it is easy enough to check the second page.
Actively starring questions alerts your friends to them. Allowing email alerts to responses and questions means you don't miss out on ones posted by your network.
Choosing Best Answers - looking at nobody in particular....gives validation to well thought out responses instead of throwing open your questions to multiple account voters and devaluing the worth of every legitimate poster to them. 10 points to a cheat is 2 free questions, and a missed chance for a worthwhile poster to get a little more prestige and pride.
I personally wish the block option meant that I would simply not be able to see anything the person I block posts on other questions - I do not believe it is strong enough, and I do take your point that trolls can be demoralizing, yet we have what we have, and there are tools to help make the best of it.
Use them, and use your rights as a frequent asker to select Best Answers that resonate for you and will resonate to other people who post onto your questions when they check back to see what you selected.

What, not have trolls, and reduce the GWS forum to an intelligent, mature, positive, informative, enlightening, and interesting group of questions and answers about Gender Studies, instead of a forum full of countless idiotic, sexist questions about breasts and sexual habits? or nasty, demeaning questions about how evil or stupid women or men are? or homophobic questions about how ugly and gay all feminists and pro-feminists and non-feminists are?
Yes, GWS could only improve without trolls intent on mocking social sciences and gender studies at every opportunity.

I totally agree with you Sigy.
Maybe we need to share troll exposing tips.
1) When you see a question posted first check the posters avatar. You will find many are newly created. Some have minus points against them. Also some have been set up ages ago and have very few points and then suddenly become active.
2) Some trolls really make fun of regular posters by reinventing their names.
3) Some post obscene avatars-it turns these people on to receive posts.
I really believe if we are to clean up this forum we all of us regular posters should just ignore their posts. Do not answer any of them and then they will grow tired and move on.

I do not agree with trolls, if you are anti feminists or disagree with a question ,there is a proper way to express a difference of opinion in a respectful way.

If there were no trolls, what questions would you then ask? Ask them. Discuss them. And, ignore the jerks. But, has this experience not taught you well how to differentiate that fine line between tolerating speech from all perspectives when it's constructive and not tolerating speech when it's destructive? If nothing else, I have grown quite clear from this experience about what is free speech and what is slobber.

i think the forum would be much better without trolls. i don't care if someone doesn't agree with a particular feminist principle, but these trolls are just obnoxiuos.
i wouldn't call removing obnoxious comments as censoring - every place has a set of rules (you can't talk in church, you can't write curse words in a letter to the editor, you cant verbally harrass a coworker, etc.)
however, they do reflect reality. from posts on here and elsewhere, there are now websites like - menarebetterthanwomen.com, thisisawar.com, angryharry.com, dumpyourwifenow.com
i think these people are just plain scary. they attack, spread lies, attack women's services. they are just mean-spirited people.

How do you know if someone is a troll? If a person disagrees with Feminism, are they automatically a troll? Who would be the judge to determine who is a troll and who isn't? What if the powers that be decided to get rid of all trolls and you were in the list?
Edit: I see Kate has posted some ways to detect trolls. Thanks

GWS would be a far better place without the trolls! However, if we believe in free speech, we put up with them and/or report them.
Sometimes I think I would want a monitor for this forum, but then what if the monitor decided OUR questions weren't up to speed?
What's hard to do is ignore them. Even though that's the best thing to do.

The extremists provide us all a foul wrap. females and adult men human beings do compliment one yet another in lots of approaches. the authentic definition of feminism is the theory in equality for women human beings. equivalent truly worth to that of adult men. This truly ought to pass the two the type to artwork.
