I agree with most of what has been already written. That amendment was put in place so that the American people had a means to keep the government in check. Just one more of the checks and balances. If the government ever became too controlling and oppressive for the majority of The Nation, as was the case before the Revolutionary War let me remind you, then the American people were presented with a means to abolish or overthrow the government.
I believe that it is a good and just law. But, it has been taken to extremes with both gun control, and the opposite. There needs to be a happy medium where the law is fair and not oppressive. Take for example something along the lines of what John Edwards said, that 'the right to bear arms is guaranteed in the constitution and is a good law, but hunting with an AK-47 or an assault rifle is not'. What could you possibly be hunting that you need something that powerful for? That's why we need the happy medium in the law.

Well if you read the second amendment, it states that the right to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed. What that means is the framers of the constitution recognized the fact that as free Americans we have the right to keep and bare arms for our defense, or hunting, and if necessary to overthrow our government if we feel it has become oppressive. If we take our constitution as it should be, all gun control laws are unconstitutional.

For.
That clause was not an accident.
Why do you think we have never been invaded? Why do you think the terrorists attacked through the one place where they were GUARANTEED that no citizen would be packing heat?
The terrorists used planes because they knew that no one could shoot them once in the air.
We need more law abiding citizens to train and own guns.
Not to mention that we have that right so our OWN government cannot turn against us. Oh wait, already happening.

I am for the right to bear arms. The reason: it is a right guaranteed by the US Constitution.

An armed people is a free people then and now.
