Here's an article stating it's only a matter of tme:

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/afp/us_un_science_rights_cloning

If this is true, then imagine all the implications, law, ethics, etc. etc.

Who's son/daughter would it be? What rights would it have?

Will it really be considered to be human, etc. etc.

Why would people even go there. I know the answer already, because they can, but it doesn't make it right does it.

One can't compare prolonging a life with creating a new one artificially!!!

It is obvious that the legal ramifications of cloning would be plenty and complex. However, I'm more concerned with the emotional consequences. We can even agree in the subjects of abortion, when life begins. We can't accept other races or religions and we want another complete being hanging around?
I don't think so.

the same can be said for IVF and pharmaceuticals...why tamper with what's not meant to be?

the funny thing about people is, in theory, we like to invent things and use things for good. in practice, we're not so good at being good. and so the POTENTIAL for doing good is a motivating factor for any of the scientifical things we do...not to mention the boatloads of money people would pay for these things (let's be honest about that).
