There are 2 weeks before basketball tryouts start. Our team has just started doing conditioning, which is only running so I am pretty sure i am set there. What i need is a good routine which will help my basketball skills, and also some strength training i could do. I am a freshman and I really hope to make the JV team (if you arent on JV, you are automatically put on the Freshman team) or maybe even varsity. I think i have the skills, i am just a bit rusty on basketball and i really want to have an edge on some of the other players. Thank you for the suggestions

Use the two weeks to practice lay ups and free throws. You'll make the team if you can do both. They score points and that's what a coach wants to see. Fundamentals, it's as simple as that. I raised three sons.

with just 2 weeks you can't start weight training...not enuff time.

-Jump rope- good for explosiveness
-Ballhandling- buy dribble goggles at local sports store, they are cheap, they block out lower half of vision so you can not
see ball, prevents you from looking down. Work your weak hand even more than your strong hand. Coaches look for players that can dribble with both hands.
-Work on proper shooting form fundamentals- start with shooting with one hand, bent knees, elbow in, extend up, follow thru with wrist.
-Defense- stay low (your head should be a little lower than whoever you are covering). Always see your man and see the ball. NEVER turn your back to the ball!!!
-NEVER stand around during a scrimmage when your team has the ball. Work hard to get open, set on-ball and off-ball screens. After you pass, cut to the hoop with hands ready!

Remember most coaches don't look for you to make all your shots during tryouts, they look for hustle, desire, good fundamentals, tough defense, aggressive rebounding...diving on floor for loose ball defintely helps!!

Good Luck
