I miss the mountains, lake, friendly people & fun local bars, restaurants & shops. I am looking for a pleasant climate year round (for the most part:) & an area with same atmosphere as Burlington & VT but with a larger population. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Petaluma, CA would be most fit to your criterion and be part of san francisco bay area metro. There are over 40 films shot there. Come to visit it or see pictures http://www.bayareavisit.com

Strictly on a statistical basis, have a look at Redding in northern California. It's at the north end of the Sacramento Valley, near lakes, mountains, and away from the big population centers (and earthquake and fire-prone areas!) to the south. Its urban population is about 90,000, with an extra 20,000 in two nearby cities. There's good basic information at
