why does my 74 nova backfire? isee not alott of gas is goin throught th filter. any info sites??

timing problem,possibly needs a timing chain replaced

best to see if the filter is clogged or not big enough to allow the fuel to flow, next thing would be to check the spark plugs one of the cylinders might not be firing. when you do pull them look for a wet plug then replace it and try that if still doing it. then go for timing and stuff but this is the easy one to check.

Mechanical problem with motor to simple ignition problem in the particular cylinder. Need to diagnose.

Could be a lobe wore off the cam.
