A couple of other things were wrong with your sentence: As an avowed supporter of women's rights, she believed that men and women should receive equal pay if they do the same job.

The answer is "avowed" because to do something "gingerly" means to do it lightly. In this sentence, she is a strong supporter, thus the choice is "avowed."

Avowed, but there should be the word "an" before it.

I read the word "gingerly" and thought, "NO FREAKING WAY!!"

Agreed, "As AN avowed supporter" for the same reason as noted above!
