I don't think so. It's possible to be infatuated with them, but you can't love someone you've never met. Love is a learning process, a physical attraction and seeing everyday actions.

It actually happened to me once when I was 19. We met on the phone and didn't meet until almost two months later, now for the life of me I can't find her to see how she's doing. I even used one of those web-services and they didn't even know what happened to her.

I think that it is possible to love qualities about someone and therefore love them but being "in love" takes being in person I think. But who knows love is a really strange thing.

I like sweetie's and dinny's answers - you can concoct all sorts of grandiose ideas in your head - I think you really gotta get to know someone in "personal" way before you can truly "love" them. (and I don't mean in the physical way)
