The Internet obviously has changed the business in the last decade of so. We've all got the Internet at our desks, and it is a wonderful resource for reference data. The newspaper also has an on-line edition, and we update it throughout the day.

The catch is economic: we currently are giving away the product on line, which is not exactly the mission of the corporation. But we're all working on that aspect of it, hoping advertising can compensate as well as the editorial matter attracting new readers to the print edition.

I'm an investigative reporter for several newspapers, and more updated technology means I can stories written and submitted much faster. It also helps because I can get photos (always important) AND email them to the photo editor right from my phone. This is very handy, because if I'm headed to the scene of a car accident/fire/etc. I can't take the time to search for a camera, and there's no guarantee that our photographer will get there.
