I am a Liberal and I don't believe in gun control, of any kind. I believe our right to bear arms is the cornerstone to our freedom in this Nation.

That is a myth that it is liberals who want this...cops are mainly republicans and they want it. I am liberal and I think people have a right to own a gun. I do think there are people with guns who should not have them...how to keep it out of their hands is the problem.
I think a license to own a gun might work, so people who own them have to show they have been trained in how to care for and properly store them. People who are not supposed to own a gun because of arrest and prison time wouldn't have a license so police can prosecute them easier.
I also believe kids should not be allowed to own guns themselves, especially around middle school age. A responsible parent owns the gun the kid uses to hunt with until the young person turns 21.

Every discussion I've heard about firearms control has been about controlling inappropriate types of firearms. There's no reason for a civilian to own an AK47, a Uzi or other machine gun, submachiine gun, or 50 caliber rifle. That's overkill or sniper-grade weaponry. It's not necessary for hunting; nor is it necessary for self-defense. No Democrat I know is advocating total abolition of firearms' ownership. And what's wrong with requiring a background check for someone buying a gun. Do you want a psycho to have ready access to a weapon? It only makes good sense to have purchasers screened. And a 3-day waiting/cooling-off period is in everyone's good benefit. I'm for responsible weapons control; I am not for abolition of weapons ownership. AND, my brother was intentionally killed by someone with a .357.

um, hello... gun owning Democrat here. No need to generalize.
But I do feel that it's appropriate to make it illegal for criminals to own guns and to regulate strong arms... after all no one needs a Howitzer on the back of their jeep.
Edit: Deep Diver.. if it's nonnegotiable then were do I line up to buy my anti-aircraft and ICBM's?
The ENTIRE CONSTITUTION is negotiable... that was the whole point of writing the Bill of Rights in the first place... to show us it could be amended. Plus what negotiation was made with my above statement? Criminals aren't awarded full civil liberties anyway and not giving out Howitzers could easily be argued as part of the "well regulated" debate.

I am a liberal and I WILL keep my guns whether or not they make a law against them. They will stay in a safe place until they are needed to keep the common citizen free of the slavery they are beginning to undergo from the so-called conservatives. We also have the right to rebel against our government.

If you have a beef about gun control, you best take it up with its Republican supporters:
Richard Nixon on gun control:
"Guns are an abomination," According to conservative columnist William Safire, Nixon went on to confess that, "Free from fear of gun owners' retaliation at the polls, he favored making handguns illegal and requiring licenses for hunting rifles."
It was President George Bush, Sr. who banned the import of "assault weapons" in 1989, and promoted the view that Americans should only be allowed to own weapons suitable for "sporting purposes."
It was Governor Ronald Reagan of California who signed the Mulford Act in 1967, "prohibiting the carrying of firearms on one's person or in a vehicle, in any public place or on any public street." The law was aimed at stopping the Black Panthers, but affected all gun owners.
Twenty-four years later, Reagan was still pushing gun control. "I support the Brady Bill," he said in a March 28, 1991 speech, "and I urge the Congress to enact it without further delay."
One of the most aggressive gun control advocates was a Republican mayor - Rudolph Giuliani of New York City, whose administration sued 26 gun manufacturers in June 2000, and whose police commissioner, Howard Safir, proposed a nationwide plan for gun licensing, complete with yearly "safety" inspections.

any who are concerned about gun control are most likely concerned about child safety, in regards to guns in the home. There have been a few stories in the news lately about kids who have found guns and aimed them at another kid, thinking the gun wasn't loaded.
There was a story not too long ago, in Boston, about 2 cousins who were 7 and 8 years old, and one of them killed the other with a gun he found. From what I recall of the story, both kids' fathers were in jail for gun crimes, as well.
If you feel you need a gun in order to protect yourself and your home, I am not going to stand in your way to have one. Nor am I going to stand on your property!

The right has been warning for over 40 years that liberals were going to take their guns. That hasn't happened yet, despite periods where there was a dem in the white house and a dem majority in congress.

Who has tried to take away your guns?
Name any legislation that has tried to ban firearms completely.
The Second Amendment allows you the right to accidentally shoot yourself or a family member unequivocally.
Even if the US were to pass some sort of 'Gun Legislation,' what difference would it make? There are so many frickin' guns already in the public domain that it would be basically pointless.
