I would like to know how much weight a baby should gain from when they are born to when they are 3 months old. How do their social skills, and emotions change and develop?

After the second week of life until about four months of age a baby gains about an ounce per day, after which it gradually tapers off. As a general rule, the ideal rate of gain is for an infant to double its birth weight by four (not three) months of age, and to triple it by one year of age, and to quadruple birth weight by two and a half years of age.

Obviously there is a lot of variation in growth rate. But if your infant gains much faster than the above generalization, be careful. Much of the current obesity epidemic begins in early childhood, sometimes even in infancy. Infancy is not the proper time to be put on a diet, but there are strategies to decrease the rate of gain.
