She's right, whenever you feel YOU are ready. While some people suggest 3 weeks it's really about the woman. Also, congrats on being conscious about going back to school and making good grades. Maybe you didn't plan for your child so early, but at least you are making awesome steps to better yours and his or her life. Good luck and all the best wishes to you and your baby!

Most Dr.'s say 6 weeks after a healthy vaginal birth or 8 weeks after a successful c-section. I would wait at least 6 weeks to make sure you are ready physically & mentally. Only YOU can truly determine when you are ready to go back. I didn't want to go back to work after I had my baby, but I had to in order to pay the bills, she was 10 weeks old when I returned to work.
Good for you for wanting to finish school! It will be hard with a baby, but you can definitely do it if you try.

Kudos to you for wanting to go back, most girls would have given up!
As far as going back and when, it's totally up to you. Some bleeding and cramps due to your uterus going back to it's normal size is normal. WHen I had my twins I didn't go back to work for several months although I had a c-section and gall bladder surgery one month afterwards. It was a little rough, but I didn't want to go back to work at all so I took as much time as I could! I ended up quitting to stay at home with my boys, but I probably could have gone back a little sooner with light duty. You have to remember that you will be sore and maybe a little bit emotional. But if you feel ready and your doctor/midwife gives you thumbs up, then by all means go! I wish you the best of luck!

I'd call your teachers and pick up work to do at home to keep pace. When you have someone to care for the baby while you are at school and you feel physically ready, head back. If you have done work at home, you won't have as much catch-up.

i agree with karen...if you get some work now...you will definately be less behind...but it is up to you...i honestly took 3 months before i went back to work...and only worked for 3 months and i went back home for another 3....i couldnt leave my baby...but then i really needed to work went back to work when she was nine months and ive been working since then (shell be 2 in decmber)....really its up to you and how you are feeling physically AND most importantly mentally...i know mentally i wasnt all there for about 6 or 7 months because post pardum deprression hit me really hard...again as long as you are ready and youre healthy physically and mentally!!...good luck in school and remember you indipendent studies alternative...i graduated from indipendent studies (before i got pregnant tho)....and i graduated with honors...so you also have that option...remeber you are not alone...there is alot of options for young mothers!...good luck to you,...and congradulations on your new baby boy or girl!!!

When you can find someone to watch your baby at home, when you arn't breastfeeding as much (if you are), when you feel like you should.
