My younger sister's name is Milia.
My parents were thinking originally of Kayla, then Angela, then they mixed them.

I liked it after you spelled it how it is pronounced. At first, I couldn't get it from the spelling Achaella. I'm sure you have problems on the first day of school with the teachers. :)
It's a pretty name though!

When I first saw it I thought of Achilles, and then thought Greek. The spelling is definitely unique. I like it better spelled than pronounced, if that makes any sense.

PS Ah-key-ella is the pronunciation I get from the spelling.

You have my sympathies every time you have to explain the spelling or the pronunciation to anyone (and then stand and watch them write it down wrong anyway)

Akela is the she-wolf who raises Mowgli in The Jungle Book - it means "alone" in Hindi
Achilles was a Greek hero who wasn't as indestructible as his mother thought - and is now a tendon in your heel

Which did your folks have in mind?

It is kind of out there. I would have pronounced it more like Michelle or Rochelle. It looks pretty on paper, but I don't care for the pronounciation, because it reminds me of names like LaTrisha, Demarcus, etc.

I think when parents give "cutesy" spellings of common names to their children, it leads to people having horrible spelling skills later in life.

I like it but I would have mispronounced it without the explanation. :) It is a beautiful name, though.
