...we need to redefine our rights to privacy?
Is this not another manipulative tactic of the federal government to allow intrusive snooping into our personal lives, when none is warranted.
Under the guise of protecting the American people the government is slowly but surely throwing the U.S. constitution out the window. Their abundantly successful endeavors in stamping out terrorism here and abroad will undoubtedly open the door for even more dismantling of our civil liberties. Will strip searches at airports be the point where people say "Hey this has gone too far!" or will we wait until B.C.searches become the norm for simply entering the airport? To what length are Americans willing to give up their rights to assist the gov. in propagating this false sense of protection?

What rights have been given up? Besides the right to privacy? Well there is the right to free speech and the right to due-process for starters. How about the right of assembly and the right to free movement? While some are simply in the slow process of erosion it can not be denied that others are being dismantled before our own eyes. I've included some additional links to support this as wll a my recommendation to everyone to read Orwell's "1984" and pay special attention to the last link.

I'm afraid that if its sold the right way to the American public as a safety measure and to stamp out terrorism it could be done. If you don't accept the rescinding of rights and freedoms you are somehow unAmerican and playing into the hands of terrorist and besides its only temporary. If accepted there is a very good possibility they rights and freedoms taken away will never be won back. So its all in the selling by the government to the people. Remember the song, " you don't know what you got till its gone" This could happen if the American people are not vigilent.

The people of the United States are mostly ignorant, there's no other explanation for Bush getting re-elected the second time. Maybe people just stopped caring, I don't know. I do know that I had a huge wake up call when their wasn't an outcry for justice when Bush got away with his lies about the supposed weapons of mass destruction (his main excuse for the war in Iraq) and when the Patriot Act was passed.
When are we ,as a nation, going to WAKE UP!!!!

First of all, I too question What Rights >EXACTLY!< have we given up, or been denied? I'm out in the "Real world" all of the time, and deal with people from all over the world...I just don't see it.

SECOND, For Blind, sheep-like people..who pontificate the same Lib "Talking Points"...WITHOUT checking their cedibility...like ^^"Blue_Bee"^^ Above has..... Allow me to show you her post, and explain Why it is WRONG!

(BB>)Warrantless Wiretapping of American Citizens.

The so-called "Wiretapping" B.B. is referring to, is the act of watching for >Known< terrorist phone numbers being dialed from, or dialing in to the United States. No listening in to conversations took place, no conversations were recorded.

If >AFTER< this initial "Flag" it is decided that further investigation is warranted, then the associated Government 3-letter agencies can pursue it from there.

I am of the opinion that, if someone is calling out to, or receiving calls from a >KNOWN< terrorist(s)..I'd like the government guy/gals to maybe take a closer look at these people....Call Me crazy, but that's my opinion.

(BB>) The denial of Habeas Corpus to prisoners.

The prisoners are not....

Covered under the Geneva convention.
Soldiers of a State Government.
US Citizens.

They Therefore >DO NOT< fall >ANYWHERE< within Our Civilian Court system, UN, or any other "Legal" War system.

They are simply "Enemy Combatants", and if anything, are subject to the Military justice system.

Therefore...the Right of "Habeas Corpus" Doesn't apply to them...they don't have that, or any other right(s) of Our civilian legal system, or guaranteed by it....PERIOD!

(BB>) The use of torture.

I still have yet to see, be shown, or witness any of this torture I keep hearing is so prevelent.....
I >PERSONALLY< know several people who are serving, or have served in this conflict. >Everything< I have been shown, have seen, or witnessed..has shown me only how professionally Our fighting Men and Women conduct themselves.
Do people get hurt in war, sure....Are there times when people get hurt more than is needed...sometimes.....
But let us be Realistic here.....This is not an altercation between two drunk hillbillies...
It's a WAR....Stuff gets broken, and people DIE in war.

These people in detention were >NOT< just sitting around at a pool party when they were captured!
They were taken on the Field of battle...While they tried their best to Kill as many of Our guys/Gals, as they could....

You do the crime, You do the time.
You dance the dance, you pay the piper.

(BB>) The Patriot Act.

What exactly about the Patriot Act?

I am all for personal liberty, it is what this country was founded on. I Also don't like many of the aspects of the Patriot Act....So I fight to get them changed, and I vote to get the people who would propose better ideas elected to do so.

I don't spend all of my time crabbing on an INTERNET answer board about it.......

Socialism isn't the answer People!
Regain control of Our govenment....The do, after all, Work >FOR< us!

Tx_Trot:

What rights have we lost? What has our government done? You need it spelled out for you?

This is of concern to me too. I think they will look back on it and say, why didn't we see this coming, kind of like all the other **** that's being force fed to us through fear tactics... It's all about control if you ask me, just like religion. Our homes can be invaded and searched without our knowledge and they never have to admit that it was ever even done, we can be held without trial if they consider us to be terrorists, way too much power for them to have, thanks to the patriot act. Look it up unbelievers.

Let people themselves define privacy not government people who are only interested in getting reelected or their own interests of wealth and power. tho there are exceptions I am sure, some people really do care, the odds are stacked against them.

what freedoms have we given up? well let me count the ways., let me see income taxation for starters, by this taxation, which is unlawful, we give up our rights to do what we want with our labors, we are expected to turn over information that can be used against us anytime they want and know your business enough to use against you even if you doing nothing wrong. income means profit, not trade (labor for money) if they want to consider your and mine labors as income (profit) how come we can't take deductions for cost of doing business of living?

If I was running a business I could take expenses as deduction, inventory repairs, gas, wear and tear on vehicles, place of residence to do that business, but we can't take deductions for expenses to work but yet our wages are considered profit?

second we need permission to do upgrades on our own home (permits as in permission) permission to drive which is unconstitutional, it means your freedom of movement is checked, you need government permission to exercise a god given right. a worker pays more percentage wise taxes than the wealthy do when they make a profit.

I heard we pay up to 35 percent while they pay only 15 percent.and they can get more tax breaks by deductions and moving assets off shore something we can't do.

at airports, when it is others who are stripped without cause, I would think that metal detectors and bomb sniffing dogs was enough for them to find dangerous materials was enough. after all if the detectors detect no metals or powder or explosives of any kind how much of a threat are you?

I do tend to believe that strip searches in airports is not meant to protect passengers from dangerous criminals, but to humiliate, dehumanize people, to get them to accept more and more degrading treatment like cattle would. after all is it necessary to strip search in public view where others can see your privies?

it is to push the envelope to see how far you can push the serfs . this isn't all, you have to have a passport to leave the country, yes they should know who is coming in, but what right do they have to decide you cannot leave if you want to?

what doesn't make sense to me is people's willingness to give up freedom to protect that freedom, that is double talk, after all if you give up your god given rights aka freedom, for protection for that freedom, then there is no freedom to protect. what protection you then need is protection from govenment abuses and attacks.

all you have is a police state whose sole job is to protect corporate interests and their resources, and guess what, ever hear the expression human resource departments in corporations? well that means humans are considered a commodity or resource to be bought sold and used as they see fit. you are no longer considered the master but the slave.

how do you like them apples? history repeats itself,

governments are only as good as the people in it, if the people are corruptible, and born in sin, like us all, then you can only expect a government that even starts out good enough to degrade into a tyrannical slave owning society where a zillion excess petty laws are made simply to make sure they have an excuse to fine you enslave you via prison systems and workers for free, and keep money flowing into the government. then it becomes a system of exploitation for profit not about rule of law.

terroism is a fraud, you can't fight terrorism, it is not an ideology or a group or a nation or geographical location, it is an act, how do you fight against an act that hasn't happened yet? how do punish a crime that hasn't happened yet? or arrest people who have not commited a crime yet? By picking up people who might commit a crime is paramount to playing god, only the true God can read a person's heart and know what they intend to do, governments are playing god by assuming that this or that person just might commit a serious crime. So are some government people starting to believe they are god?

exchange terrorism with crime, these are one and the same. they have been fighting crime for thousands of years, it will never be abolished under man's rule or way.

terrorism is one of those slogans or cliche's they use to invoke a horrible image and fear in people, as opposed to saying criminals or crimes, since people are exposed to crimes all the time, purse snatching, murders, rapes, and kidnapping, drugs on the tv and newspapers all the time, it doesn't envoke a willingness as much to give up rights like the fear of an unknown,in the shadows enemy out to get you unless that feds protect you.

my quesiton is then, who will protect us from teh feds? if they are so godlike that we need their protection, then that means we are helpless against criminals of great magnitude, but the feds can, we are thus helpless against the feds too? what kind of gods have governments proven to be? (forget what you hear what do you see?). what has history shown time and again? check your history books, articles, search and find out what history proves time and time again.
