I took a Sample SAT previously and I recieved an analysis of myself. I noticed that in the reading section that I answered all of the questions well except for the ones based on 'global understanding'. I'm pretty sure that basically means I don't get the purposes behind the writing.
Sadly, I've come to notice that this weakness affects me significantly in daily life. I don't watch many movies, but when I do, I can't help but think anything more than "Ok...so what?" It's is the same with reading. I understand the story and the language, but if someone ever asked me how I could apply this story to my life or what the moral was, I would be absolutely clueless.
My dilemma is that I don't really know what could improve my abilities. For other things like math or vocabulary, I've been able to get better through practice. But I don't know if just reading more would help me get to the bottom of this problem...
What are some things you do as a reader to make sure you get the message?
