The car is not moving when put in gear. I have already put a whole bottle of transmission fluid because it was low, and still nothing...Does my transmission need to be rebuilt and if so is that expensive?

it sound like your transmission is bad. it need to be replace not rebuilt it. when you buy a rebuilt one from a transmission shop, they don"t do a thorough inspection and they don:t have the equipment to test or run the transmission . they just replace the parts that is bad. sometime this repair is not reliable and cause your car to break down. you will have to come back to the shop and repair it again. buying a remanufacture is the best way to do. they will test it and run it before they sell it. this is the best, reliable method

First, make sure your linkage is still attached, otherwise, you can move the lever all you want, and the transmission will stay in park.

After that, check the fluid first before you add to it, don't overfill fluids.

If the linkage is attached, and the fluid level is correct, have it towed to a reputable transmission shop and have it repaired....

a mercury sable is basically a ford taurus and they are notorious for bad transmission so yeah it needs a rebuild its gonna run about 1200-1800 and dont buy a used one from a junkyard cuz you will end up rebuilding that too
