I think it's because it's the style of play of the English. The top leagues in Europe have their style of play. The Italians defend, the spanish are technical in their play, the Germans wear you out and the English play long balls and wait to counter. I think it's gradually changing now because of the influx of foreign managers and players. Look at the England squad, I think Joe Coal and maybe Shaun Wright-Philips are the players gifted with the dribble. It's probably why England in not doing so well in the Euro qualifiers.

looks like Stevie Gs after tournament poison has have been given into peoples heads, Everton in basic terms play quite some long ball to make use of Fellainis attributes which i'm particular any team interior the prem would do if he have been their participant. @Delboy Carroll wasn't precisely efficient replaced into he? Fellaini's a handful for any defender.

english team was known for long ball, sideline crossing, then headers. back in the days, english players are taller than players from other countries. advantage on their side to play long and high flying ball. plus, english players have never been known to play small group attacks or solo-player breaking down defenders. basically, there weren't such players. maybe still doesn't have one.
after importing lots of overseas players, EPL has changed quite a bit. but long ball doesn't mean it isn't effective. it takes a lot of skill to make good crosses.

It is a way of not exerting yourself too much. You skip the midfield with long balls from your own third, so it allows you to have more players forward. You have a better chance to score. Plus, it makes for attractive goals, though I admit nothing will beat a Gerrard drive.

don't know if this is true or not, (don't watch a lot of Serie A, Bundes, or La liga) but if it is, it's probably cuz strikers and other attackers inside the box can acutally give the ball direction with their heads. Plus it makes for more spectacular goals.

why do brazilians dribble all the time?
its just the way its developed
and with lots of foreign players and mangers coming in i think it is changing

That is not strictly true.
It's a bit of an urban myth actually.
