My friend told me that a few times when she has drank wine, she ends up getting pain in both arms, her stomach and even her legs. It doesn't happen all the time, just once in awhile. She does not drink much at all, maybe once a month a few glasses. I have never heard of this and was wondering if anyone else has - found nothing on the internet linking occasional drinking with pain in the limbs. Wondering if it might be alcohol allergy, but then it should happen every time she drinks, which it does not. She said the feeling goes away after about an hour after she stops drinking. I know she is not an alcoholic, just a very occasional drinker - this sounds so strange to me! She is thin frame and in her 30's. Anyone hear of this before?

It can be any number of causes but most likely it's this as I experience the same since an injury to my lower back...

Sugar is an inflammatory and there is a LOT of sugar in alcohol, so obviously the more sugar intake, the more irritation of anything that may be wrong internally.

perhaps your friend has minor disorder in a nerve somewhere.

Also, it could be "referred pain", meaning, the pain you feel is one place is caused by another area... VERY COMMON and the number one reason people often hurt themselves worse when seeking treatment regarding minor or major injuries, they also get misdiagnosed when ill because of it.

Perhaps she has a mild alcohol allergy and the pain in her limbs is from that.

She should get an allergy test.

I asked a question about the same thing and all no one really could explain it to me other than to say it was an 'allergy'. When I drank beer, liquor or wine, I would get skin pain on my abdomen, thighs and arms. It felt like a sunburn without the redness. I have no idea why it happened to me and it only started happening a few years ago (I'm 29). I also checked all over the internet and came up with nothing.

This is quite common the morning after a night out drinking. Alcohol naturally dehydrates the body, which can cause pain in the limbs where water has been drawn-out. A 'hangover' in its simplest terms is just dehydration of the brain. Its nothing to worry about, just tell her to drink plenty of water to rehydrate her system.

Is this the only time it's happened, or is it a pattern? One possibility is that you're doing things while drunk that are hurting yourself, but you don't feel it because of the alcohol. Another that's unlikely and horrible, but should be considered, is that chloral hydrate / ruhypnol / etc is being mixed into your drinks, and something is being done to you. If you have any doubts, look up more information on it.

Some people interpret alcohol as toxic and try to flush it out. The problem is; it also dehydrates the joints and muscles. No prob, just eat a little fatty or greasy food. But every time you drink, expect it to return.

Sounds like it could be a number of things. She could be allergic to the fermentation in the wine....but usually is accompanied by nasal congestion and lung congestion. It could be when the alcohol enters her veins and arteries and affects dilation. It sounds like she is not eating a good diet and needs to increase her fruits and veggies.(with lots of colors red and purples) This will help clean her veins and arteries and strengthen them. Otherwise, leave the wine alone.

This is a kind of toxic shock or Alcohol poisoning.

Probably caused by imbibing alcohol to quickly for her body to assimilate.

Do you think it could be caused by dehydration? Sometimes when you drink you get dehydrated. and that can cause all kinds of aches in the body.
Maybe she should try to drink water as well and see if that helps.

I've never heard of that, but I do know that drinking can raise the risk of getting cancer, and when pregnant, drinking can cause birth defects. Tell your friend to go to the doctor. It could be serious!

Wow! I have NEVER heard of anything so bizzare...
She may want to seek the advice of a physician. This doesn't seem normal at all!
