What did you name your children and was there a specific reason?

We named our son Ethan James because Ethan was the only name we could agree on besides Calvin (but I hate the nickname Cal) and James is a name that's been used in every generation of my husbabnd's paternal family.

What did you name your children?

Each of our girls has at least one Celtic name, to reflect our heritage (and naturally fit with our obviously-Irish surname LOL). Also, each has one familiar name and one less common, whether first or middle. The less popular names are simply underused, however, not misspelled or created (if you know what I mean). ;) Not at all difficult or "off the wall," in other words. LOL We figure it tends to give a name a nice balance, since none of their full names could be considered "too common" or "too unusual." So even those with a more popular first name won't likely know another with their name in full, and those with a less familiar first name can always use their more common middle, if they prefer.

They also each have a formal first name with various nickname options, so while we tend to use a certain one, they still have the option to use another, or none, as they age. It's all about giving them the choice, rather than sticking a child with a nickname version and no other options, formal or otherwise. :)

So that's our general naming formula.

I'd rather not say the name, but I liked the first name when I first started hearing it. It was years before I was pregnant with my daughter, so by the time I had her the name was WAY popular. But I liked it the best, so I used it anyway. Her middle name is what her first name would have been if it wasn't what it is now. Since her first name was gonna be a popular one, I came up with one other name, but it was too close to someone else in the family and I didn't want people getting the two confused. No specific reason for either, other than I really liked them and thought they would fit both when she is young and older. When I looked them up, the meanings happen to be pure and happy. So the names fit even better!

I wanted names that would be unique, or at least uncommon. My 1st is Byron because I like the name. I wanted the 2nd to sound like they fit together and named him Rhys. It is Celtic and pronounced the same as the Southern 'Reece'. I thought about using Granfather's names on the 1st, but he would have been some combo of James and Cecil so we passed on those.

My husband and I couldn't agree either! Isn't it fun? We chose the name Benjamin (nickname Ben). At first I thought it was a nice name and he did too, but it started getting old to me. Finally, I said, "Ok, if I can think of a middle name that I like, we will go with it." So my son's name is Benjamin Kyle.

My stepdaughter is Krestina (after my sister in law Teina..my husband spelled it wrong was supposed to be Kresteina). (This is why he is NOT spelling our children's names LOL)

Victoria Ann--I liked the name since I was 12. Both of our grandmothers' names were Ann and it was common on both sides of our family. We had discussed Victoria, but didn't like it shortened to Vicki so we shortened it to Tory

Baby #2 (due end of Jan) Joseph Edward after both grandfathers if a boy and Lillian____ just because we both like the name

My three children all have first names that my husband and I chose together simply because we loved the names. I like middle names to have meaning, so their middle names are after some of their great-grandparents.

My little girl is Madilynn Elizabeth and we call her Madi and my little boy is Wilkerson Glen and we call him Wilke. Wilkerson is my maiden name and my husbands mother was named Glenis and had no middle name, and wanted to name him after her since she had just recently passed away. I loved the name Madi for some reason and Elizabeth is after my sister that passed away when she was a baby. I stressed over names but I am very pleased with them now.
