I was thinking how much pleasure some people get when seeing the likes of the "Britney Spears" of the world torn apart like victims in a lions den and the mobs cheering, but the above just kind of puts the thoughts into words....only you have to wonder why some people do this nonsense willingly.

Do you think if they could really throw people into the lions day today, that it would sell out?

Somehow I believe it would!

Cage fighting is to the KNOCK OUT or until one party cries UNCLE.

Don't confuse or change the subject by talking about something else. The issues, which you touched upon in the entertainment factor and what you are entertained BY.

Ah but women love crossing over as much as men do.

But thank you Tirsa for at least offering some insight as to "why".

Cage fighting is a lot different than the way the Romans did it. In the lion's den people were killed for entertainment. Cage fighting (UFC) has referee's that make sure no one dies. I Don't think I would compare these two together. I would compare the Romans back then to todays corporate world. That is a better comparison.

Actually, you posted this in current events, not entertainment. The ancient Romans are not current events at all. Sorry if you thought I was changing the subject. Here.... Society is different than the Romans. the UFC is nothing like throwing someone into the lion's den, they walk in the ring voluntarily and they do not fight to the death. They are not slaves, the fighters get paid good money and have fame and are not forced in the ring one bit. Each fighter chooses that they want to fight to be the best at what they are good at. After the fight they get medical attention which the Romans did not give. So does that give you the insight that you were looking for? Peoples opinions? Since this is a question of opinion and not fact, people give their opinions voluntarily and I gave you mine because I can.

You're a woman so you don't understand (why people would do this willingly). Men love this stuff. That's why we have boxing, wrestling, football (American), UFC, etc. The testosterone in men causes them to enjoy extremely physical activities. It also has to do with our primal instinct. Men used to fight each other in tribes and hunt for food. We don't have to do that anymore, so we need an outlet for that pent up aggression. Women used to be the homemakers and did the cleaning, taking care of children, and cooking. Now men and women are basically equal in society, so women are branching out into men's sports. Also, men are experimenting with women's roles as well (metrosexuals). So, no, we are no different than the Romans and we never will be. It's human nature because humans are animals and we will never be rid of our animal instincts.

Added: Saraleon, because the post was written by an American, so naturally, she'd be referring to this happening here in America where we are supposed to be civilized, as opposed to this happening somewhere in a third world country where it would be expected

No, actually we enjoy a more sophisticated type of barbaric entertainment and way of life. The media provides the perfect channel and our human flaws, including lack of common sense, our greed and our lack of compassion, do the rest.

What passes for entertainment these days is a business. We are used to it thanks to years and years of being programmed by tv networks and cheap thrill seekers.

Ever wonder why everything is extreme now? Lack of control, lack of measure.
