Most dr's will do a vaginal scan at that time to see how the pregnancy is progressing and make sure you are off to a good start. I just had mine done at 6.5 weeks and was able to see the heartbeat. Good Luck and don't be too worried if you don't see anything yet and they do a scan. It may still be too early.

At my very first prenatal visit, all my doc did was a urine test to confirm pregnancy, and then a pap smear and a pelvic exam and I was on my way. She did order an ultrasound for me to help date my pregnancy because I've always had very irregular periods. I didnt get that ultrasound until a few days later though. Since you know how far along you are, they might not do an ultrasound until 10-12 weeks. I have already had 2 (one to date the pregnancy and the 2nd was to hear the heartbeat, which is an amazing experience!). They might also take some blood tests from you and get your OB history, but more than likely all of this will be spread out over a couple of appointments. I am 7 weeks pregnant today and I am JUST NOW going in tomorrow afternoon for my bloodwork. Each Dr's office does it differently.
Good luck & congrats!!

It all depends on your doctor! With my first daughter, when my doc examined me, It did nto feel like I was as far along as what I should be according to the date of my last cycle. So we did an ultrasound then to see exactly how far along i was. This time ( i am 12 weeks pregnant) everything felt the size that it should, but i do have an ultrasound next week because i had femaile surgery a few months ago and he wants to make sure everything is ok.
So depending on your doc and what he finds, they may have reason to do one but prob not.
Good luck!! and congratulations!!

I dont think at 6 1/2weeks that you'll get an ultrasound...its too early, sorry. I know how excitting it is to finally see your little one, you are going to have to wait just a few more weeks. At 6 1/2 weeks the doctor may want to listen to the heart beat, which will be a great joy for you!!
Congrats

Not necessarily.
At the fertility clinic i worked for, they would do an ultrasound every visit, but this is because of the high risk of miscarriage.
If you don't have a history of miscarriage, the first ultrasound is usually after 8 weeks or so.

No, my first appointment was at 6 weeks, and I didn't even meet the doctor. And I had another one at 10 weeks, no ultrasound. They will tell you ahead of time when they are doing an ultrasound because you have to prepare for it. (You have to drink lots of water before & not go to the bathroom).

wow most doctors wait until 12 weeks since there isn't much they can do before that. unless if you need to learn about how to take care of yourself and all that... but most likely the first ultrasound will be 12 weeks or 20 weeks depending on the doctor and insurance.

it depends on you. i had one every week, but i was a high risk. muliple miscarages and gestational diabetic. most women get one around 18-20 weeks when they tell you if it is a boy or girl. the first visit is more for information. so you can get to know the doc and talk about concerns you might have, even calculate the due date. i begged for my first one at 12 weeks. i mean the machine is right there, all he had to do was turn it on. at this stage, there really isn't much to see anyways.

Most likely not, they usually do an ultrasound b/t 8-10 weeks. Some doctors do not even do one until 20 weeks!! I am glad my doctor was not like that and I hope yours is not either!!
Good Luck and Congrats!!!

No, they will probably do the first ultrasound around week 9-10. Your first appointment will be to get to know you and for your questions.
