You can do blue-screen. In theory, with digital editing, you could do whatever colour screen you want.

The key thing is that the background should be as uniform a shade and brightness as possible, making the selection between the foreground (to be kept) and the background (to be made transparent) as easy as possible. Green works best for this.

In editing it separates from other colors the easiest. Blue is also used or it used to. Also in editing photographs any solid color background makes it easier to mask in other objects.
