North Korea and China were both communist regimes. And since Russia considered itself the father of communism, they provided advisory and technical support anywhere they could.

The US got involved because the UN decided to intervene in the war between North and South Korea. Largely however the US motivation was to try to stop the spread of communism. And since the US had the largest army amongst those countries that sent troops, they made the largest contribution by far.

Sort of, Lenin started it, because if you think back on it, Lenin started communism in Russia when he was in power.

But, the Cold War was a nothing but a war of words, and tense. It began in 1945 when Hitler had just got out of power. The US and USSR (Russia) were called the 'superpowers'. And actually Korea was never involved with the Cold War, typically speaking. The United States felt communism was horrible, and because we thought and felt that, Korea and the US came together and we held hands through it. MEANING: Korea helped us, we helped them.
