My job involves alot of work on the computer so we're all given special company scan-cards and computers. On the computer we're required to scan our card into a special machine to unlock all of our information and such that we need to access for work. I was chatting with a friend from work asking to borrow my card as she'd left hers on her desk in the office. I'm 99.5 percent sure it's illegal to use cards other than our own. She says that she's going to get fired if she doesn't get into the site within a couple minutes to post some stuff. Here's the converstation on our work IM:
Meghan Ashman: hey.
Noelle Carter: Hello, Meghan! I'm just putting my finishing touches on the Winter Wonderland top design.
Meghan Ashman: great! hey, listen. i need to run soon. can you do me a big favor?
Noelle Carter: What is it?
Meghan Ashman: i left my card in the office. i need to get the 541 designs up by 1:00! can i borrow ur card? please!!!
Noelle Carter: BRB.
Megan Ashman: hurry!

I really don't want to lend her my scan-card but I feel terrible! She's messed up quite a few times and I don't want her to get fired. She's only 19 and a bit confused here.

Noelle, please don't do it. You are jeopardizing your own job. I work in the IT Department for my company and I maintain the security cards that you refer to. The reason each employee has there own card is for a variety of security measures. I don't know about your company rules, but where I work, you can definitely be terminated for allowing another employee to use your card.
Your co-worker needs to learn that she must be responsible for her own card and access to work. I would politely tell her that you cannot put your own job at risk. If nothing else, this will probably be the last time she forgets her card.

Is what she needs to do difficult or time consuming? Maybe you could log on & kind of do it with her. This way you don't have to feel bad about turning her down but you can also be sure that she doesn't misuse your card or get you in any trouble. Also let her know that you can't do something like this again for her.

She works there, she knows the rules. You should not break the rules. You could lose your job as well.
Simply tell her she'll have to talk to the manager and get access that way.
Tell her you're sorry but she shouldn't be so forgetful.
If she has messed up a few times already she obviously isn't learning and that job prob isn't for her anyway....

No, you should not let her borrow your card. You are not responsible for her. She should go to a manager and borrow a manager's card. The company gives scan cards for a reason. If she gets fired it is not your fault.

Please do not risk losing your job for anyone. I totally understand that you do not want your friend to get into trouble, but if she was truly a friend, under no circumstances would she ever request you to do something that would hinder you at your place of employment. Please think before you put yourself in a position that will eliminate the both of you from employment. Be subtle with her, but firm, and advise her she has to figure something else out. Let her know you would do anything to assist other than something that risks your financial well-being.

I would say don't let her use it because you could get fired if you let her. I would feel sorry for her too but you can't risk a termination being permanently put on your record. Plus they might track when and where cards are used.

I've always had horrible luck with letting people borrow my things. But, it's really a call you have to make. No one but you knows this girl. Also, go with your gut. It's usually right! Good luck! Let me know how it went!

Don't do it! If something goes wrong you could both get fired. Don't talk to her until the deadline is up. She can always ask someone else.

If she has screwed up in the past whats to say she's not doing that now and she's getting you involved as well. If it were me, I'd say " I'm sorry but, I can't help you."

So is it ok for you to get fired along with her???? That card tracks who uses it and who it belongs to. If it's desperate she should call her supervisor.
peace out
