What is it about Thanksgiving that seems to bring all the family troubles to the forefront? It sounds as though there are a lot of old, long-standing resentments attempting to rear their ugly heads over your family's T'giving plans. No. It is not rude to decline an invitation. It IS rude, however, to lambaste the family with old angers by way of explanation, so refrain from that, if you can. Simply explain that you would prefer not to attend since you cannot afford the requested amount and it is too difficult to accept criticism for it. If you do it nicely, in an even tone, it is impossible to arouse an argument. If you prefer to spend T'giving alone, by all means, do it. If you think your cousin's invitation is kind and something you'd like to accept, then accept it, go and enjoy it. It sounds as though there may be some resentment, but you can refuse to engage in the gossip that you think will ensue.

First of all i want to have a nice turkey and mashed potatoes, fruit salad, ham, pumpkin pie, and stuffing.....But the sad thing is that i am going to my mother-in-laws and the only thing that i might eat is pumpkin pie because she can bake but not cook anything that has any flavor...i am really hoping that something turns out right this year....lol
