Very simply there are a lot more open roads and high speed highways in the USA than in the UK! There are also a lot more high powered vehicles driven by the civilian population here.

You have to compare apples to apples!

Their gas costs upwards of 9 dollars a gallon for regular!
The majority of cars over there are a lot smaller than here so they can get by with smaller chase vehicles.

But here in the states, we have huge pickups that are quite common. Try making a F250 fishtail with a mini cooper.

THAT'S why they all drive crown victorias. They're nearly as big as a truck!

In the end, mini cooper vs. mini cooper-no big deal. Nissan Titan vs. a Peugeot....Titan won't feel a damn thing.

Chances are any Vauxhall Astras you saw were 4 cylinder, any Vectra or Omegas were likely V6 engined. Any Volvos were likely to be T5 types.

Because the auto makers in this country won't allow it. It's all about wheeling and dealing with fleet offers and at this point there isn't enough pressure on the government or the car companies to become efficient or ecomonical.
