My daughter is way too dependent on the bottle... but hates getting her milk from the sippy. Do I just take the bottle away all at once or gradually? She's 13 months and I want her completely off the bottle by 18 months. I've been trying to break her from falling asleep with the bottle, which was hard this weekend, but I think it will be better this week (as long as I can get her babysitter to do what I'm doing). Any help and insight would be great! Thank you!!

You pretty much need to break them of it cold turkey babies aren't very responsive to gradual change. If you want her off of it by 18 months then just wait till then and throw all the bottles away. When she doesn't have them for a little while she'll get the hint and use the sippy cups.

You gradually introduce it. I got these sippy cups/ bottles from walmart. They have a soft nipple made out of silicone I think, but it worked great for my daughter. I got her off the bottle at 12 months. The trick to it is, just give her water in the bottle, and milk in the sippy, she will learn fast, if she likes milk. Good Luck

Right at about 9-10months I started giving my first child a sippy no spill cup. And on the day he turned one I tossed all of his bottles into the trash. He had no problem whatsoever switching. Some docs recommend sometimes giving them a sippy cup at about 7-8 months (with a spout of course) and then very slowly see if he/she can drink with out the spout. It worked for my first son, and my second son, now 8 months has a sippy cup.

at first i would offer the sippy when she is thirsty then at nap and bed time give the bottle. do this for a month then after a month take the bottle away at nap. then a month later take bottle away at bed time. if you do it all at once the only thing you will achieve will be screaming for 5 days.

aunt of a 13 month old who lives with me. we just started taking bottle away at nap. during the day he drinks sippy cup.

I just started to give my son a sippy cup once he turned a year. He had no problems switching.

throw them away, a child does not need it after 12 months, you will have a difficult 4-10 days so count on it but everyday you wait the harder it will become for your child and yourself
