A one night stand is purely physically and probably not emotional. I think a long-time affair is much more painful because your wife would be cheating because she found someone more interesting than you, verses a guy she met in a bar one drunken night. I cheated on my husband once, a one night stand, which I barely remember due to drinking. It was horrible, I cried for weeks and the guilt took almost a year to go away. I never cheated on anyone in my life so I took it exceptionally hard, which I deserved, of course. But if you're marriage is solid enough, and your love is real, as it was in my case - love will prevail and you will work out the differences. Good luck.

Both are terrible
But I'd say that a long time affair is worse because the two people usually connect on a deep emotional level. If my husband had a one night stand I'd be mad, obviously, but if he had a long time affair I'd be completely furious.
A one night stand is sex. A long time affair is a relationship.

I would chose a 1 or 2 night stand by far!!! I would be more upset to find out that my partner has carried on any type of long term, emotional affair with someone versus he/she having a one or two night fling with them. Neither one of them is good, but if I had to chose, I'd chose the one night stand.

Not cheating but both suck. But if I choose A long time affair means feelings and that would be far worse than a one time thing that was spare of the moment.

I don't think one is any better than the other. Cheating is cheating, whether it's done once or a hundred times.
