Obsession like scrupulousness has a purpose. It depends on how it is used. It becomes an unhealthy behavior when it interferes with a person's ability to function in society.

Sure. It depends on what the obsession is, and the circumstances in which they occur. For example, if you are obsessed with saving the world from a tangible and realistic threat or if you are obsessed with caring for your family, or if you were captured by enemy soldiers and became obsessed with getting away. Those could be considered "healthy" given the situation. Also, some of the most successful people in the world are obsessed with their work, and say that they are very happy about it, so I don't see how that would be consider unhealthy. In any case, obsession is a part of human nature, and like almost all aspects of human nature, it is neither inherently good or bad, it all depends on how you feel about it, how you act on it, and how it affects those around you.
If you are talking about being obsessed with another person in a romantic sense, then that's almost never a good thing. I've seen this happen to many people before, and the only time it has not ended up bad was this one couple who seemed equally obsessed with each other (it was pretty freaky to everyone else), but they ended up getting married, and now have 3 kids. But that's 1 out of like 100. Of course, when you are obsessed with something, no words here will change your mind about it.

No, it's not healthy at all in my opinion. I have an obsession with whipping out my credit card and shopping online. It's BAD. But I can't seem to stop myself. I need to work on that. When I see something I like, I HAVE to have it NOW. But I think when a person is obsessed with another person...THAT is scary.

Obsessions cause stress which is not healthy. However, they can also be the reason that people achieve the impossible.

most likely not because obsession involves irrational thought and behaviour. Obsession obscures clarity and in order to have a successful life you do have to have focus on goals and things you want...but not obsession...

Sure, but it depends on the goal that has caused the obsession.
