I am 7 weeks pregnant and have a great job which I have been at for 3.5 months. I have a felony charge ( grand theft 350.00) which I am currently serving probation for. My employer has not done a background check on me YET. I am not sure if she will, but she does it on other people and I am sure she will eventually do one on me. On my application i didn't put down that I was convicted of a crime b/c I had adjudication withheld and I never told her about the charge. So, since I do the payroll I am assuming that if she does a check I will get fired. what should I do? Should I wait and see if she ever does one or should I tell her about it? If I get fired its going to be impossible for me to find another job because of my background and because I am pregnant.

Employers usually do the background check before the official hire date. If you've been working there for over 3 months, I don't think she'll check. I don't know what "adjudication withheld" means, or if that affects how your record appears. Explain?

You could be in serious trouble if she does check, because lying on those forms can be considered fraud - a felony in some places. You've been in trouble before, you might want to make some better choices to stay out of trouble in the future, especially for the sake of your child.

Although there is not much of a likelihood that she will go back and do a background check, I think you should go to her and tell her.

The question on an employment application is "Have you ever been convicted of a crime?" The answer in your case would have been a very clear YES, even if you are on probation now and had an adjudication withheld.

Quite simply, you told a lie and you know it. To make it right, you must go back and tell your employer the truth.

I know it's hard, but until you learn to be honest you will never be able to make a clean start INSIDE and out. What your employer does after you tell her the truth is up to her and you must respect her decision.

Maybe she will let you stay on a trial period, with some security checks in place. Or maybe she will fire you.

You must learn to deal with the consequences of your actions. If you do lose your job, perhaps you can find ways to work from home or do babysitting or housecleaning. Both of those make really good money.

Best of luck.

I'm really honest so I would have told my employer from the beginning. At this point, you might be better off to not say anything and hope for the best. If you do eventually get fired, you don't have to tell another job that you're pregnant and since you are only 7 weeks, you won't be showing for quite a while, so don't worry about that part when looking for a job.

i would try to tell her cuz if she does a check and sees you lied on your app then she can very well fire you. you shouldnt lie about big things like that, and now being fired will look even worse on your resume

you made a mistake in your life and you are serving your punishment, but trying to cover it up will make it seem more worse
