One who does not live by what he or she says. Sort of like "Don't do what I do but do as I say."

Merriam-Webster's says: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings. I noticed you said "explain" not "define" though this may be good jumping off point. I like this question. It's something I've been mulling over myself since the Larry (the toe tapping congressman) Craig got busted. He was vocally anti gay marriage. But may of been caught trolling for man-man love. Some called him a hypocrite. There are some outed homosexuals who are anti gay marriage. Does that make them hypocrites? It seems to me they get a pass and are called enlightened. I don't mean to duck out on an answer but I haven't resolved this yet. I've dropped using the word until I do. I think being a thoughtful human can be complicated and that people can be sincere about holding two seemingly polarized opinions or believes.

A hypocrite complains and tells people not to do a certain thing and then turn around and do it the same way they said to not do it.

Someone who tells people lying is wrong yet they lie just as much or more than the person they told.

Like elephant who has different tee (tasks) to show and different ones to eat.
