I'm not saying extraterrestrials don't exist - the universe is infinite and I'm sure there is life out there - but I don't think there are little-green men in flying saucers visiting our planet.

I watched a documentary last year about how the US have supposedly been testing aero technology acquired from Germany during the second-world war. There's a book on it from Henry Stevens called "Hitler's Flying Saucers: A Guide to German Flying Discs of the Second World War" (ISBN-13: 978-1931882132). Chances are, the discs they had in the 40's are now far more advanced and capable of flying at very high speeds.

I saw a picture of a supposed UFO recently. The people were convinced it was real and yet you could see that the UFO was actually their kitchen light reflected in their window (as they took the photo indoors). Most photos of supposed UFO's can be explained this way, and those that can't - well perhaps they're just highly-advanced versions of the 1940's German Flying Discs.

Why leave God out? That's kinda weird.

UFOs are a proven fact. Many people have seen things flying that they can't identify.

The probability of life outside the solar system is impossible to calculate. You can make guesses but nothing with any degree of accuracy.

If you make a guess you have to make assumptions about the origin of life, and that's why I think it's odd that you asked to leave God out. If life is the result of random chance and if the supernatural source of the Big Bang didn't directly intervene to create it, then if one had enough information one could calculate the probability of life evolving elsewhere in the universe.

If, on the other hand, life on earth is a special event caused by that supernatural cause of the Big Bang, then the probability of life elsewhere could be as low as 0%. There are some of us theists, however, who don't see the necessity of limiting God's creative activity to this one planet and wouldn't be surprised to find out the universe is teeming with life.

It seems probable in that case that one of the possibilities is that we were spread out so as not to have contact with each other. But even if life is the result of chance and there's life on a planet orbiting the nearest star, the technology required to travel there, or for them to travel here would be very complex and it seems like an odd mission plan indeed to come here and flash across the night sky and not make contact.

So: UFO's yes, ETs maybe/don't care.

Who cares what people belive, the fact is that there is not a scrap of proof (and I mean scientific proof not hearsay) that ufo's or extraterestials have visited us -even if they wanted to.

Anybody who believes that must be daft, or has been watching too much TV.

Do you believe in it? And why leave out God? wasn't he alleged to have come down from heaven in a ufo.

Why do you encourage such nonsense?

Astronomy does not deal in such matters. As ufo's and aliens are subject to believing in personal stories without any evidence, they belong in the category Paranormal Phenomena along with ghosts and apparitions and bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. This would be under the Alternative section of science and mathematics. If one is conducting a poll or survey, these should be placed under the Music and Entertainment category. Please use the search bar.

I think the universe is to big for it just to be us. Its interesting to watch the discovery channel and see all the theories out there. Some I agree with and others are a little to weird for me.

Do some people see things in the sky that they can't identify? Sure. It happens all the time.

Are these things alien spacecraft? Not on your life.

if there were no inteligent life forms ( who have a concept of the universe) the universe would cease to exist. I dont think the existence of the universe could possibly depend on just one life form for its existence.(all the eggs in one basket springs to mind)
