Using the Conflict Theory perspective poverty is rising because of the Polarization of Wealth. In every society there are always groups that are trying to control capital. Capital and there are various types of capital equal to power. We live in a Capitalist country where power equals wealth and more opportunities for a better life. Marx and Hagel wrote much about this topic. Hagel's Dialectic is a prime example of Conflict Theory. There are always going to be shifts in power and certain groups viaing for control over that power to better their social economic statues to better ensure the survival and prosperity of their descendants and future generations. The poverty in the US is result of this conflict and a small majority of the country controlling a majority of the wealth. Approximately 30 percent of the population in this country controls 70 percent of the wealth thus--Polarization of Wealth occurs.

The basic explanation for rising poverty is that the wealthy control the political process. They use their wealth to influence political parties, and assure that conditions will favor them. This involves: (1) lowering taxes on the rich. (2) Eliminating regulations that would make it difficult for them to accumulate more wealth. (3) Assuring that there will be cheap labor by making sure that large numbers of illegals will be able to enter the country and remain here. (4) Preventing the establishment of universal medical care, so that they control the lucrative health industry including medications and medical care. etc., etc., etc.
