Depends on what you consider cold. I was there last November and it was chilly enough in the mornings to wear long sleeves and a light jacket over it. It warmed up enough during the day to take the jacket off and roll up my sleeves. I don't think it was ever colder than the low 50s and felt 10-15 degrees warmer by midday. It's the foggy dampness that make it colder in the mornings and then burns off during the day.

Found this on what to expect year-round:
Oakland, CA climate is mild during summer when temperatures tend to be in the 60's and cool during winter when temperatures tend to be in the 50's.

The warmest month of the year is September with an average maximum temperature of 74.60 degrees Fahrenheit, while the coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 44.70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Temperature variations between night and day tend to be fairly limited during summer with a difference that can reach 15 degrees Fahrenheit, and fairly limited during winter with an average difference of 13 degrees Fahrenheit.

The annual average precipitation at Oakland is 22.94 Inches. Winter months tend to be wetter than summer months. The wettest month of the year is January with an average rainfall of 4.85 Inches.

Yes, Oakland, Ca. is a (Coolish) city.

In the Winter, it stays upper 50's to the low 60's.

In Summer time, it stays in the upper 60's to low 70's for average Highs. -> Lots of sky-Fog also like San Fran.<-
But.......if we have an Off-Shore wind flow, Oakland and all of us Bay Areans can get really Hot.
Upper 80's on the Coast to mid. 90's to 106 all around inland in the Summer months.
But, it only stays that Hot for only 2 or 3 days then the 'Stratus-Fog' returns to cool off S.F. and Oakland areas.
Here in the Santa Clara Valley where I live, it takes a day or 2 more longer to cool off to the low 80's again.

it depends on what time of year it is. It's hard to believe it, but it's actually warmer in the winter than the summer. In the summer, the bay cools down the area, and in the winter, the bay keeps Oakland at a warm and sunny temperature. Fall and Spring are mild (within the 60's and low 70's). Depends on what you feel cold is. On a normal day, it's usually from the 50's to the 70's.

Night time lows are seldom below freezing. Day time lows are seldom below the 50s. To me that means I can wear a polo shirt all year round, your mileage may vary.

Yes it gets cold. Not too extreme, but you will need a winter coat and whatnot.
