The founders of America were proud to be liberals. The members of the Continential Army were proud to be liberals. The writers of the Constitution were proud to be liberals.
Liberalism is only a bad word to those who hate America and hate the freedom and rights that liberals secured for all of us.
If you like Democracy, thank a liberal.

That's not political criticism; it's just name-calling. When I hear talk like that I ask people what harm will come from which policies. Generally, people who are politically aware can get down to the concrete issues (pulling out of Iraq will be bad because .... or what have you.) People who can't articulate why "socialist" medical care is bad haven't done enough thinking to be trusted. Making (or preventing) real change in society requires much more than just knee-jerk reactions to labels like "capitalist" or "liberal".

Yes. Because so much of what the liberals base everything on is base on "I think," "I feel," "that's not fair," "that's good enough for me" and a host of other comments I could quote them on.
The biggest thing that up sets the liberal movement is when people are not willing to accept their lies as fact or truth.
Consider the American communist that we have today running for the White House, Hanoi Fonder, I mean Hillary. She's prime proof of this. She's proof of what the liberals really think about freedom of speech.
Conservative talk radio has contradicted her and has expose her for what she is so many times, she is trying to find a way were she and her communist friends can make conservative talk radio a thing of the past.
She is the first person in the history of America were communists and muslim countries have given money to an individual running for the presidency in our country. This in itself should tell you something about her. Liberalism is just a 4-letter word, and Hillary is proof of it!
If this was the 1950's, Hillary won't be running for the White House, she would be on Congressional trial facing Senator Joseph R. McCarthy on charges of treason!

Anything taken to extreme is not a good thing. I am a right leaning moderate conservative. I think our beliefs on both sides have evolved into different meanings than anyone could totally profess to know.
So our opinions differ greatly on economics and socially.
The main things that irk conservatives are that individuals, being responsible, initiatives, advancement, and success are frowned upon by liberals.
Redistribution of the wealth is a socialist agenda that it seems liberals have adopted.
There are many things conservatives have done, and liberals too, both right and wrong!

Well liberal today doesnt mean what it used to. Most of us are cool with change which is what liberalism actually is but change for no reason is insane. Often liberal is just a cover label for socialist which is why it is taking on such a negative connotation for so many. Liberalism wasnt always about big government and dependency it was just about positive change- I dont think a sane person can make that argument about modern liberalism

Labelling people is a lot easier than dealing with them at an equal level, really listening and trying to understand their point of view.
It's easier for a Conservative to listen to Rush Limbaugh and then label everything and everyone disagreeing with him as a "liberal."
That way, when things are discussed, when someone disagrees, conservatives label them a liberal and cast them aside. And all conservatives hear are those that agree with them.
Rhio, are you a member of the Jewish faith? If not, tell me what the New Testament says about "liberals."

As in any situation where there are differing opinions, some people believe THEY have ALL the correct answers to problems. That, obviously, is not the case. That is why our Founding Fathers developed a system of government (federalism) that allowed for compromise and sharing of ideas.
Very briefly stated, here are the different beliefs of Conservatives and
Liberals.
Conservatives believe in personal responsibility. The individual, not the government, is responsible for individual actions. All government should be limited and be representative of the people. They believe in free market economy, individual liberty, traditional values and morals, and a strong national military for defense. The role of the government is to protect the freedom of the people so that individuals can pursue their own goals and desires. The emphasis is on the state to solve its own problems and for the individual to solve his/her own problems.
Liberals believe in a strong government that acts to protect and achieve equal opportunity for all people in the nation. It is the job of the government (state) to help solve social ills and to protect the civil liberties of all. Liberals have a strong belief in individual and human rights. The role of the government should be to protect and guarantee that no person is in need. Thus, liberals would accept governmental policies such as national medical insurance for all. Liberals emphasis the basic goodness of people and the need for government to help solve problems.

Having ideals about out-comes is not a bad thing.
Not having a plan is.
Being an alternative is a duty.
Being contrary to everything should not be construed as moral or responsible.
