I am so annoyed. In July i cancelled all my direct debits, due to money missing out of my account. It was only last week that i found out my tv liscense had been stopped to.
But as sods law would have it they came to my house todays and boy i was in for a shock. They have informed me i could have a thousand pound fine, cautioned me, asked stupid questions and made me feel like a criminal , all though i have had tv liscnce for ten straight years previous and never ever broke the law in my life. I am so up set and annoyed and will be writing a letter for what it is worth. As i know too many people who have massive fines, but irony is when your neighbors son breaks in to some house, steals thousand of pounds worth of property , get suspended sentence of a month and fifty pound fine, Sense i do not under stand.
Is this is what the world is coming too??

So, you should be exempt from the penalties of not paying your bills just because your neighbor's son is a criminal?

Come on, now. Get a grip on reality.

It sounds as though they were trying to bully you. The best thing is to get in touch with the licensing authorities in Bristol, explain the situation and ask if you can straighten things out with them. If they insist on taking the matter to court, explain the whole situation to the magistrates and point out that you had had a licence all those years, that this visit happened very soon after the cancelling of the direct debit and that you had no intention of evading your debts. They have ways of resolving these cases so that a fair solution is arrived at.

By the way, the standard fine is nothing like a thousand pounds, if only because most of the people appearing with court on these offences tend to be very hard up.

Not sure what the worlds coming to but I've decided I can't afford a TV licence just yet so my TV is sat in the corner looking pretty until I can afford to use it. Since I'm a student living in university housing I'm responsible for getting my own license and we keep getting reminders but it's rare for anyone to buy them.

The last time I contacted TV licensing I threatened then with harassment charges as they kept sending letters to my deceased grandmothers house ordering us to get a tv license or face the £1000 fine even though we had told them that the owner had died and the house was vacant whilst building work was undertaken - they didn't even reply but they did shut up for about 6 months.

The law is hopeless in many ways not just around tv licenses, if you murder someone and get life (about 21 years) you can be free in under 10 years to murder again and that's considered justice!!!! The punishments no longer fit the crimes they are given fore - it's utter madness.

i've got no longer paid the BBC television Licence in 19yrs and in no way will because of the fact i think of this is biased liberal/left rubbish. do no longer pass believing what salus says the two because of the fact you purely prefer one to observe "stay" feeds and so which you do no longer prefer one purely for possessing a television. you will discover a undeniable variety of people push lies regarding the BBC television Licence scaring human beings into procuring one (unhappy human beings certainly). in case you could desire to be attentive to extra you could verify my internet site out which has members like myself who've long previous years with out giving the #@£" a penny :)
