Ok.. I was at the zoo on saturday with my sister and my son and I walked past this woman who have had to be at least 7 months pregnant.. if not further along.. She looked like she was ready to pop any secod really..

And guess what she was doing....

SMOKING!!! an entire cigarette!!!

oh my gosh I was sooooo mad!!!! that baby could possibly have lung problems/severe asthma/be born with a defect!!

When I walked by and stopped (was waiting for my sister to catch up to me) she must have thought I was stopping to stare at her or yell at her.. and she hurried and finished, then threw the butt out in the trash can... then almost like ran the other direction with another woman she was with.

so so so wrong. I wanted to say something to her for her unborn baby's sake.. but I didn't because I had my son with me (only a year old) and I didn't want to get into a heated argument infront of him (and all the other kids that were there)

what would you have said? anything?

What is really crazy is... out of all places to do something like that.. she chooses a ZOO??!?!?!

Full of kids and mothers.. babies in strollers.. what gives???!

I am sure she is "used to" being stared at by ppl and scolded/yelled at. How can a mother not care about her unborn baby's possible health problems from something that SHE CAN PREVENT from happening in the first place??? AGH! ok i'll stop now. sorry .

I would have said nothing. I would certainly have given her a disdainful glance, but good manners would prevent me from anything further. But I would have been thinking and feeling the same things you were.

She knows how unhealthy it is to smoke while pregnant. Comments from others will most likely not do any good. She is a trashy hick with no self respect nor any respect for her unborn baby.

Well, I'm of mixed opinions on this topic. My mother smoked the whole time she was pregnant with me and, at 21 years old, I haven't had a single health problem due to my mother's smoking. However, she also smoked with my younger brother and he has some asthma problems.
My cousin is 7 months preggers with her second child, looks like she could drop that little bomb at any minute, and she's been smoking the whole time, too (as she did with her first one). It drives me nuts because her daughter has had some serious health problems since she was born (she's 3 years old) and I can't help but think it's because of cigarettes.

I worked with someone that smoked their entire pregnancy at least a 1/2 pack a day and everyone in the office said something to her but she did it anyway.

And her son ended up with Asthma and now the poor thing has to go to the doctor's office all the time with breathing issues.

She still doesn't think it had anything to do with her - the bottom line is that if people are selfish enough to smoke while pregnant their is really nothing that we can do.

SORRY, BUT I do NOT agree with you in the least. As a matter of fact I say it is NONE of YOUR BUSINESS. I grew up when smoking was not a crime as it is now. And there were LESS problems with smoking and cancer then there are now. I do NOT support or believe all this garbage that is being made up by others in order to stop smoking. You don't want to smoke then don't. BUT if ya want to, then light it up.

I aggree that what she did was wrong, but I believe you handled the situation correctly by taking the kids into account - otherwise you would have stooped to her level! I also understand your frustration by not saying anything, as it is probably not in your character and you believe to stand up for what is right. Luckily I think she saw your look or for whatever reason she hurried along, which means you conveyed your message without words - well done!!!!

That would bring out the B*tch in me. My sister smoked through her whole pregnancy and now her Daughter has asthma, allergies, and ADHD. The kid is so off the hook no one wants to be around her. And it is all cause her mother is stupid A**.

I would have been mad and probably with my big mouth I would have said something...see the thing is that yes it is the mothers body yes it is her choice to smoke, but she has a life inside her that cannot make choices on their own. That childs well being is in her hands and her body and she is endangering it.

I'd have minded my own business. Clearly, you don't understand the depth of the addiction to tobacco.
Believe it or not, there are some people who have not been able to conquer the addiction.
