I'm usually the shoulder that gets cried on. I'm fine with that. I think I'm a good listener. So, like some others have said, just be there for your friend as best you can. Maybe they need someone to talk things out with. But some people just need to deal with problems on their own, so I guess you don't want to be too pushy if the person doesn't feel like opening up.

Fickle,
sometimes you have to let things roll as they may and leave well enough alone. Complications can only bring further complications - kind of a "snowball down a hill" type of an effect.
Not an answer you likely want to hear, but there is only so much you can do. Best to be there as the "ear post" as opposed to the "solving rock" - and in a manner of speaking you become the "rock" through your position as "listening post".
Best to you!
Gerry

I try to be there for them and listen to them because one of the things that I have learned it is best not to bottle your hurt inside but to find a trusting medium or listening ear and not say anything unless asked a question and just being there can be the best medicine and a sign of true caring and loving.

They need laughter, do and try your best to make that person smile more! A Smile even forced can cheer someone up! Watching The Ellen Show always makes me laugh :)

Lots of emotional support. It is best they work it out themselves eventhough it is hard to sit by and watch.
