Oooh, I love thrift shopping! To answer your question though I think it's hard to find truly vintage stuff in there. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's vintage. Vintage stuff are those created before the 80s and they are quite are hard to find. I know there are some stores that specifically solds vintage but the prices are still expensive.

Still, you might have some luck! I bought a hardly-used pair of Ferragamo shoes for $4 (don't think it's vintage though but still a very, very good buy!). The only vintage stuff I had bought so far is a beautiful scarf (for two bucks) and I know it was created during the 50s because the designer uses a specific logo per era.

Happy treasure hunting!

Thrift and vintage store shopping can be fun, like a treasure hunt. Be sure to check all your finds inside and out for any problems.. Small holes in seams can be fixed, holes and tears in the middle of garments are not always fixable. Linings can be replaced and it's easier to make things smaller than larger, so if somethings a bit big it can be taken in a bit. If you can sew well a thrift store can provide you with many interesting fabrics and pieces that can be taken apart and made into something new and different. All items sold in thrift and vintage stores are cleaned thoroughly before selling, however give everything a sniff, anything that's smells mildewed or too funky should be given a pass. Be sure to check the stores frequently as merchandise is always changing. While most items will be considerably cheaper than buying new, there will be items that will be more expensive. At this point sixties and seventies hippy is quite collectible and the prices are a little higher than something like an old eighties prom dress. I recently purchased a 1972 suede midi-coat for a bit over fifty dollars. The most expensive piece I've seen in a thrift store was a Geoffrey Beene coat from the seventies and it was tagged at 250$ It was gone in a week. Items such as silk Pucci print blouses from the sixties will have a price tag that reflects their scarcity and their desirability. Check the tags and labels, they will show fiber content, care properties, and also the tag will give you an indication of how often the piece has bee washed and worn. A pristine label means the piece has had little wear, while a label that's faded and worn will show that the piece has been well worn. The label trick is actually a bit of a thrift shopper's secret. You can find some real bargains and some vintage treasures if you look for them. Happy hunting!

Hey Nicki, don't be such a snob. Not everyone has a huge bank account! Man! I can't believe what you wrote! You must be living in some fantasy world! !!!!!!, don't listen to her!

I really love shopping at thrift stores. Sometimes you can find some amazing stuff there. Once I found a beautiful Ralph Lauren tailored jacket that looked brand new and it was only $5! Another time, a Chanel silk dress from 1949 for $8. And a Coach leather bag for $7. Thrift store shopping can be so much fun! A friend of mine's family fell on hard times and the local thrift shop saved them from a very cold winter. One of my favorite coats is from a thrift store. There are some GREAT thrift shops on line too. Go to Google and look up vintage and you'll be shopping all day! My fave is www.rrnspace.com. She has some really beautiful stuff from 1920 to now and she has great prices.
Good luck and have fun!

I just bought a classic pair of pumps for 5$. You can still get a vintage look at regular stores but you'll have to pay like crazy for it, if you go to thrift shops you can find a more authentic vintage look for a third or fourth of the price. Definately go for it and have fun!

I mechanically save church sales, backyard sales and thrift shops for deals. First you should understand approximately what some thing expenses new so which you recognize once you have become a deal or not. continuously seem the article over countless circumstances for defects or positioned on, there is regularly a reason different than the guy basically did not choose it anymore. you could shop countless funds on relatives individuals products, approaches, outfits in case you put in the time. i are turning out to be to be a clean females backpack leather-based handbag for $one million.50, a upholstered storage ottoman like new (hubby repaired the hinge in 5 minutes) for $10., quite some denims, shirts, t-shirts and sweaters for my today turning out to be son. Heck, i've got even picked up some super clothing products for myself. whilst i will a sale, I continuously have funds and quite some smaller costs. additionally understand the sizes and measurements of the human beings you would be procuring clothing for. and that i continuously take a tape degree; some human beings cut back the tags thoroughly out and measuring is the sole way you will understand if that is going to extra healthful. I fairly have a workstation with such information in. I fairly have positioned my window sizes in so i understand if that set of curtains or drapes will extra healthful. once you're reachable, you will get furnishings for some funds that if repaired, refinished or repainted which will appear like one million! And "the quest" is rather exciting too!
