For the most part it is your nomal 40 hour week job. Some work 8 hour 5 day shifts, some swing 10 hours in 4 days a week. It can really vary on how many people work in the department and what needs done.

Having said that though, it is not always a 40 hour week. Keepers can be called in at any hour of the day even on their days off to come in and help care for the animals. A normal job might be able to get by if a bunch of people call off sick, but in a job where there are mouths to feed if people call off you could get called in. Or you might have to say over or get called in if there is an emergency due to weather, a sick animal, or a birth.

The vast majority of keepers in the US are part of a Union so even though they might work overtime here and there the zoo does not jip them out of getting paid for it.

I would think that those numbers, are a little bit exorbitant. The really pay for a zoologist is from 50k to 75k.
