YES.
There are loads of people travelling to Mumbai from Surat for work purpose.

Best way to gather the info is - - travel for a few days with these people. Usually these people get on "Flying Rani" train from Surat to Mumbai and back. The train starts form Surat and ends at Mumbai Central and vice versa for the return journey.

If you are serious enough let me know. I know of few good people boarding the train. You can chat with them. You can actually catch the train at Mumbai Central and travel till Palghar station ( will give you a time span of about 2 hours) and need not travel till Surat. You can come back from Palghar to Mumbai by different train. But please don't rush. I need to contact the people and it may take some time.

That is right.

The cost of living in Mumbai is far more than the cost of travelling. Also, the job opportunities and income levels in Mumbai are more than the income levels in Surat or Pune.

all the best with ur project though. Incidently why just mumbai-surat, people in the interiors travel everyday to nearby town/cities for their daily bread. Yes everyday.

Quiet True. Thanks to the Local Train Network in Mumbai. Western Railway coffers Local Train Services from Chruchgate to Dahanu Road which is 124 kms from Mumbai. Surprising it take nearly 3 hrs from Dahanu road to Mumbai which is in Maharashatra while Gujrat is just 1 hr travel from Dahanu road.
