I think we are all born knowing that there is something we have to do, even if we don't know what it is until the last second, or even realize we are doing it. To me that is fate. I feel that some things are set, but I also believe that we can make a concious decision and change it. That is winning and losing.

Depends,
In a way, my ultimate fate is set: I will die --regardless of what decisions I make.
However, I am in control of the time period in between now and my death, I believe that the decisions I make now will have some impact on my life until it ends.

you're talking about 2 things that only SEEM different. Actually, they both mean the same thing.... that you will end up doing what you were meant to do.... Like becoming an Olympic runner, poet, teacher, song writer, etc. As in "I was destined to write music, I've been writing lyrics since age 10."
Or like in the movie THE MATRIX, where it is Neo's FATE to change the world, etc.

Our fate is predestened generally due to our past lives actions. We can chang our fate our future by fully surrendering to the Absolute Truth (God also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovaha, Vishnu, Rama, etc) We may continue to get our karma (Good and bad reactions to our past actions) but it is how we react to that which will determine our future destiny. We are creating our future by our actions. Karma is coming like the waves in the ocean one must learn how to tollerate and take shelter of the Supreme Lord named above.

What you are getting into is essentially "predestination"
Predestination and election are both biblical teaching. The English "predestination" is translated from the Greek word "proorizo" which means "1) to predetermine, decide beforehand. 2) in the NT of God decreeing from eternity. 3) to foreordain, appoint beforehand."1 Predestination, then, is the biblical teaching that God predestines certain events and people to accomplish what He so desires.
