First of all,
Thank You all for your sacrafice for America. Whether you are a dem, lib, con, rep, ind., etc, I want to thank you.
Second, do you find it disgraceful, like I do, that we have "Veteran's Day Sales", or other ways to trivialize holidays by having a 20% off sale?
This is how America honors its heroes??
Or am I just overreacting???
Thank You, Again!

Thanx. But thanks are not mandatory
We did what needed to be done.
All vets need a sale now and then. It's not a big deal.

Daddy was a Marine that served in Vietnam mid 60's. After he died of cancer I put up a flag pole in the yard ( Much to Momma's dismay I might add ) in his memory. She likes it once it was actually up. I try to thank them when I see veterans in the caps, but at work it's hard when rushing between customers. I do donate from time to time to the Paralyzed Veterans of America and used to donate to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. But I decided that the Paralyzed Vets needed it more then a memorial fund. I told Pop's that I wanted to follow in his foot steps and join the Marine Corps, I was 17 at the time and it's the only time in my life he took a swing at me! Told me no way I was joining the Marines. I really wanted to join the Coast Guard being in Florida and all, but he got very sick when I was 18 and I never wanted to leave when he was fighting cancer. So yes thank you to all our heroes in uniform.

Thanks from a Vietnam Vet....we never got too many thanks back then....but it's starting to catch up now.
Stores have sales all the time...before long they will have a sale for dog day...come to think of it....they do have 'Dog Days of Summer' sale.
It would be nice if those stores would give a % off for vets only...but it's hard to prove if someone is real vet or not...after all...we have had some fake soldiers with metals they bought off eBay.
Thank You all the other vets that read this...your service to our country can not be honored with only one day a year....Everyday is Veterans Day at my house....grand father in WW1 in France, dad in WW2, me in Vietnam, my daughter in Navy during 9-11, my son now serving in Iraq. GO VETS !!!

I second that!
As far as the "sales" I think that is not necessarily the way we honor our heroes. It's a reason to have a sale, plain and simple. I don't think anyone equates a 20% off sale at JC Penney as a way that we are saluting our heroes. It's all about business. Same with Christmas.

You're welcome.
They're just as bad as Memorial Day sales. Most people have no idea what the holiday is or what it means, but you know? That ignorance is one of the reasons I served - so someone else doesn't need to know personally the significance of Memorial or Veterans Day.

First - thank you.
Second - that is capitalism. We do the same to Christmas, Easter, The 4th of July - everything transforms into and excuse for rabid consumption.I don't know if I would call it disgraceful, but I would call it shallow.

Retail finds a way to disgrace all US holidays. Christmas, Easter, Memorial Day..ect.
I think if stores truly cared about veterans, they would give only vets a nice discount on this day.

There is a great Canadian song video about the two minutes of silence that we observe at 11 am on the 11th day of the 11th month of the year. It's a pittance of time.
God bless those who served, and God save those who serve today!
They fought and some died for their homeland.
They fought and some died, now it's our land.
Look at his little child; there's no fear in her eyes.
Could he not show respect for other dads who have died?
Take two minutes, would you mind?
It's a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls who went over.
In peace may they rest, may we never
forget why they died.
It's a pittance of time.

No problemo. If the country really wanted to thank veterans they would have the day off work. Only government employees get the day off.

You are welcome.
The best way to honor us veterans would be to impeach George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. And never vote for another insane Republican.
