By near the bottom I mean near the bottom for westernized and first world countries. The sad thing is we are competing with countries like Croatia and Cuba in categories like Infant Mortality and overall health.

Yes we do eat unhealthy so does France, where their national dish is butter. England everything is deep fried and German make everything with High fat meats.

Because the stats do not take into account the unhealthy lifestyle that accompanies wealth. Also, the stats do not take into account the US dollars that go into those other nations' healthcare. Finally, the US pays the lion's share of pharmaceutical research costs and the other nations get their medications subsidized. None of this appears in the ranking.

We have the best care at treating the symptoms and fixing things after the fact. Other nations try to prevent people from needing fixing in the first place.

For an example... we say "Have a bad heart.. lets fix that for you" whereas other nations say "How can we keep people from getting bad hearts". Not that both aren't needed... but preventative measures are much more cost effective.

If you are looking the infant mortality rate the numbers are skewed. From my understanding any baby that dies in utero or during birth is counted as an infant death in the US. Other countries don't add that into their numbers.
I gotta tell ya..I'm not going to Cuba for my healthcare. It's funny that, after he did Sicko, Michael Moore needed some heathcare and he didn't go to Cuba either. Wonder why?

If you are a wealthy American you will receive excellent health care. If you're not, you're out of luck. It's very embarrassing to have our country rank near the bottom in infant mortality rates.

Personal habits.

Sedentary lifestyles, over-eating, poor diets, etc.

No amount of doctoring in the world can compensate for a person who refuses to take responsibility for their health.
