Has anyone heard that taking Robitussin while ttc can cause spinal bifida? I have another question posted about TTC and Robitussin on if it is helpful in thinning cervical mucus. I have read and been told it does help. But someone posted that it can cause Spinal Bifida and nervous disorders. I would have thought the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" which recommends taking Robitussin would mention this risk and I also have another book that states nothing of this risk. My doctor told me to buy the "TCOYF" book and follow its advice. Please help me find out if this is true or not. Thanks

I tried to google it, and I didn't find anything at all on Robitussin increasing the risk for Spina Bifida. I actually came across something that said it was ok to take if you were pregnant and had a sore throat, so it must be safe. I don't know...it might be something new that they've done research on. I would think it would be ok as long as you take your Folic Acid.

I've never heard of it, and I no many ppl who've use it and their baby were as healthy as can be, just keep taking folic acid because it helps in aid to prevent spinal defect when ttc baby dust to you and good luck

I hope not...because I have a cold & sinuses & been taking that and am ttc(1st month trying)...all the other months I was wishing, but now actually trying(no more pull out!)..if it can cause harm I will stop taking it...ouch

Well, spinabifida is due to low folic acid levels in early pregnancy, so unless it depleets your folic acid levels i would have to say this is not true.
