That would be 1 Kings 9:21

Gee, the moral authority of your religion just keeps piling up, doesn't it? Has it ever occurred to you to actually worship something good, kind and benevolent?

I am not a religious person but I really do not understand why you spend so much time bashing them. All I know is that mankind is in a constant state of social evolution. With that in mind, you cannot look at the state of being of any previous era through the lens of today's sensibilities. History will always come up short if you do.

Some day someone will look back on today and we will look barbaric. Mankind is a work in process. The lessons of history are to be learned from not used to bash people or institutions of the present.

I take it you've dealt with a number of extreme right wing Christians who use Old Testament scripture like 2 Chronicles 7:14 as justification for their actions in the U.S., claiming that the U.S. is a Christian nation and all that sort of thing.

Not all of us are like that.

You'll notice in dealing with folks like that--they endlessly cite the Old Testament, and they will speak endlessly about the beliefs of the Founding Fathers.

Well, I'm not nearly as concerned about the beliefs of the Founding Fathers as I am about Jesus himself. I think He would strongly condemn the actions of today's political right, much in the way He condemned the actions of the Pharisees.

Beyond that, though, when you look at Christ Himself--He had a loving heart for those in need, He chastised the religious/political leaders of the time, and He died sacrificially for us. Can't get much better than that. :-)
