have more than one person owning one business - no, but you can give/sell the deed to another person and make them the owner
buy out other businesses - only if you buy their deed
open a hotel - no
live on a community lot - no
own a business on a community lot - yes
own a business on a residential lot - yes, but it's run out of your home
hire employess - yes
hire employees that are actual characters in the game, not just computer created ones - yes, but they become NPCs while working at your establishment, unless they are part of your family
work for a business that i do not own - yes, but it'll behave just as it does when you take another career, the carpool will pick you up, you'll work your hours, and come home

what are some of the best things about the game? - talent badges and the abillity to make your own toys and flowers. The robot making station is pretty neat as well.

you can own more than 1 business.
you can't directly sell business but you can close business and all items for sale will be sold in wholesale mode.
one business is one person's. but in home business you can make other family memebers work as cashier etc.
i have not tried to open hotel but it is not avaliable since main thing is "sell" not "serve"
when you got a comunity business lot you can buy items for that lot. I have not tried but putting a bed in that will work and you can live there. but it will be hard...
you can own a business on a community lot.but you need a lot of money.
you can have business on your own lot but can't have residantal lot as business..at least i dont know how to do.
you can hire employess but you have to be carefull about their salaries,the time they r working etc. orherwise they will quit.
yes you can hire actual charaters also. like your neighbours.
items added mostly for business of course. like lemonade stand which is kids fav. lift you can use in home but can be dangreous..some items for making items to sale like flower,robot booths.
im not sure if they have added new career with this one. i think last time they have added with seasons. new jobs.
since i have been playing a long time i forge tif there is a new car also. but there is a new ford model in official site.
there is always new building stuff like windows etc. so in this package you can get new ones.
best thing about this game is i think those booths. you can make flower,robots,or toys with those items and sell them or use it for your own.
lemonade stand is good for kids. they want to earn some money. but let me tell. before starting a home business its better to have some money since you cant earn enough when u dont have enough skills for business. be patient earn some money then start business. also community business r more confusing all the time. since you have to find a manager if you cant go there daily,sometimes u cant sell a thing in some days...
