Putting one expression under the other doesn't tell us what we're doing with them. Adding? If so, the h terms add up to 6h and the k terms to 2k, giving us 6h+2k. Subtracting? Then subtract like terms, giving us 0h and -6k, or just -6k.

Multiplying? Then each term on top gets multiplied by each term on the bottom: 3h(3h) = 9h², 3h(-2k) = -6hk, 4k(3h) = 12hk, and 4k(-2k) = -8k², and then you add the like terms, giving you 9h² + 6hk - 8k².
