I just got 3 acres for my Birthday and I want to clear the land myself. I am a young medium build girl and want to find an easy to handle, but heavy duty, hand held machine to chop all the bamboo between the larger trees down. I don't want to burn since there are homes with children around it. Any suggestions on how to get this task done? OH and I will use a miny Bob cat min dozer in the end once I decide what trees I want to keep. The trees are the reason why I don't knock everything down with a big dozer.

I'm planning on clearing a 50 square foot section at a time. I thik I'm going with a chainsaw first them using some moxy to work out the roots. As of now, I can clear a good section of land if I work consistanlty on the weekends. I am not sure if I want to use any size bobcat yet... once I get the bamboo cleared I will mark the trees I want removed, cut them down and drill a whole with a long bit straight down the trunk, poor some diesel into it and torch it! Burning the root this way worked at the ranch for the complete 100 acres so it should work on a whopping 3acres!

There is a lot of people looking for bamboo....You can chop it down and sell it.....Then get the bob cat to pull all the roots up.

If you're dealing with bamboo, it will have to come out by the roots or it will come right back.
A decent tractor with a plow might be in order....you'll need something to yank those roots up, not just knock them down.
On a smaller section, you could use a pick, but for 3 acres, forget it. Use some real muscle, especially on the roots, and I don't think a roto-til will be strong enough to do the job.

With no offense meant at all; any decent operator of a CAT D-7 Or D-9 can accomplish the task with very specific removal.

With no offense again, LUCKY YOU!

3 acres would be a daunting task as a DIY Clearing task. Bamboo is challenging enough. CHOPPING it will only promote it's growth.

In your case actually a MINI back hoe might be more effective. for the Bamboo removal.

Use a hand held sickle or buy a brush trimmer with a blade.

It will be a lot of work.
